I get it, there are tons of programs, opportunities, etc out there that are promising Speakers the world and not delivering. Tell me if any of this sounds familiar....

"You can attract your speaking gigs with simple everyday techniques to make you irresistible to meeting planners" (You still have to do the work)

"You don't need to fill out those forms, those are for suckers" (If you want to speak at the big conferences, you have to fill these out, those are the speakers that get considered, I don't care what your brothers' best friend sister who is a speaker told you)

and my personal favorite.... "Don't take that speaking gig, hold out for $10K, you are worth it" (The Speakers I know implementing this are in foreclosure)

Well, let me enlighten you. I don't sugar coat anything because at the end of the day I am a Speaker myself and I won't paint an unrealistic picture for you. Some of you may not like what I am going to say and that is fine, you can bail now. But, for those of you who would like to know what is really happening in the industry and would like to add more gigs to your calendar or start speaking then please read on....

The facts are:

  • The industry has changed A LOT in the past 10 years, there are more Speakers then paid events.
  • Meeting Planners are the ones that get you hired, not other Speakers.
  • The fees out there range from $500-$4K for a workshop or breakout session and the occasional $5K-10K on Keynotes with expenses paid. (Note the occasional, as they are few and far between)
  • If you are not easy to work with, negotiable on your fee, you won't work.
  • You need to have something else generating income, Speaking is building future income on your calendar, its not immediate.

Who the heck am I to be telling you this??? My name is Kerry Kathleen Heaps, I own two magazines, Pageant Platform Magazine and Plan.Meet.Repeat. (magazine for meeting and event planners), I'm a writer, speaker and I own Book.Speak.Repeat. That's me in the picture, wearing the tan dress, this was taken at MVA convention in Columbus, Ohio in February where I taught a media workshop, those were my "hot seat" participants.

When I first started my Business in 2005, I was also a meeting planner, so I understand both sides of the show. I got back into speaking three years ago and my first instinct was good grief this is nuts! It took me about six months to figure out the process and how it works and created my own internal systems for my team and I knew this was a pain point for other Speakers, so I decided to launch this division of my company, Book.Speak.Repeat. I created this program for Speakers who want help, who are willing to do the work and understand this is a process that takes time. I speak a lot, I am a breakout session and workshop speaker, my topics are better suited for those types of speaking engagements.

Kerry Kathleen Heaps, Founder & President

An Entrepreneur of 15 years, Kerry is the Publisher of Pageant Platform Magazine and the Host of Pageant Platform Podcast. Rilee Vo, Graphic Designer and Marketing Coordinator. 

Rilee creates our magazine, ads and produces our podcast.  She also handles all social media marketing and promotions. She first met Kerry when she was at NC State University looking for an internship to grow her skills. From there, she was given creative leisure to develop the Companies social media platforms and expand the online presence. Since then, she’s undertaken roles in marketing.  She earned her bachelor’s degree at NC State University.

Rilee was part of many choirs during her high school and University years and even minored in the subject matter.  In her spare time, she reads and writes in the hopes of one day publishing her own work and sharing her own stories.

 



Melissa St. Clair, Administration.


Melissa who owns Paper Chaser Biz has been working with Kerry as an Admin since 2011.  She books our podcast interviews, handles the corporate calendar and helps with the day to day activities of the company. 


You will correspond with Melissa when scheduling time to do your podcast and to get some time on Kerry's Calendar as well.  Melissa is a military spouse and business owner.  She loves animals, is and she's from the same home state of Maryland as our Founder.  





Christina Perrin, Speaker Liaison, Elite Division. 

Christina started out working with us as an Intern in 2014 and for the last year has been in charge of submissions for our Speakers.  Christina works with our Elite Membership Clientele to help ensure bookings and opportunities in the Private Sector. 

Christina holds a Bachelors Degree in Communications and enjoys traveling.
